Locating the Answer

Instructional Procedures:
tell student to read question, then look for the answer, instruct student to not read the unit first
complete two questions with the student
instruct student to use the range finder (sentence choices)
student should read the indicated sentences with question in mind and decide which sentence answer the questions
have student complete remainder independently

interpreting and analyzing questions
answering questions like, who, what, where, when, why and how

Detecting the Sequence

Instructional Procedures
review picture with student ask “what is happening”
“what probably happened just before” and “what will probably next”
tell student to read 2 paragraphs orally to you and remainder independently
after student finishes he needs to review it as following: without looking at the story, he should be able to recall the sequence of events as they occurred, if he can’t, he needs to re-read the story.
then have student answer questions independently

Identifying Inferences

instruct student to orally read first two paragraphs
have student read corresponding questions after each paragraph
explain that all questions will require the student to:
arrive at a probable conclusion, read between the lines, make an “educated guess” based upon evidence

statements whose truth can be inferred mark “I”
statements that cannot be inferred mark “F”
