Types of vitamin K?
K1: circulating
K2: Hepatic store
K3: menadione synthetic form
its absorption depends on the body’s ability to abdorb fat and it is a coenzyme with a role in blood enzyme.
Where is vitamin K found?
Green leafy veg, fruits, dairy products, vegetable oils, cereals. It can be synthesized by intestinal microflora.
what is the intake of vitamin K?
90-120ug a day
What deficiency occurs with vitamin K?
Dietary deficiency does not occur unless with newborn. Can also be deficiency with liver disease or fat malabsorption.
What is Vitamin K used for?
It is a coenzyme for post translational modification of coagulation factors. More precisely, the carboxylation of a specific glutamic residue occurs with a vitamin-dependant enzyme. For instance, the production of thrombin (10 residues carboxylated to bind calcium). It is also involved in the health of bones and blood vessels.
What is warfarin?
It is used for treating thrombosis related disease (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary thrombo-embolism). It is an inhibitor of vitamin k action and is used in rat poison.
