Delayed wound healing, hypogonadism, decreased adult hair, dysgeuisa, ansomia, acrodermatitis
Vitamin Zinc deficiency
Swollen gums, bruising, petechiae, hemarthrosis, anemia, poor wound healing, perifollicular and subperiosteal hemorrhages, corkscrew hair.
Vitamin c deficiency
Neonatal hemorrhage with increased PT and aPTT, but NORMAL BLEEDING TIME, (can occur after prolonged Abx use)
Vitamin K deficiency
Rickets (bowled legs, in children), osteomalacia in adults
Vitamin D deficiency
Macrocytic, megaloblastic anemia, increased homocysteine and methylmalonic acid, with paresthesia
Vitamin B12 deficiency (cobalamin)
Macrocytic, megaloblastic anemia, increased homocysteine and normal methylmalonic acid, with NO paresthesia
Vitamin B9 Deficiency (folate)
Excessive ingestion of raw egg whites –> dermatitis, alopecia, enteritis
Vitamin B7 Deficiency (biotin)
Convulsions, hyperirrititability, peripheral neuropathy, sideroblastic anemia
Vitamin B6 Deficiency (pyridoxine)
Dermatitis, enteritis, alopecia, adrenal insufficiency
Vitamin B5 Deficiency (pentothenic acid)
Diarrhea, dimentia, dermatitis caused by hartnup disease (decreased tryptophan absorption)
Vitamin B3 Deficiency (niacin)
Impaired glucose breakdown, decreased ATP. Wernicke-korsakoff and beriberi (wet-cardiomyopathy; dry-polyneuritis).
Alcoholism
Vitamin B1 Deficiency (thiamine)
Night blindness, dry scaly skin, corneal degeneration, bitot spots on conjunctiva, immunosuppression
Vitamin A Deficiency (retinol)
