Q

What do scatter graphs show in their data?

A

Scattergrams are used to show associations between co - variables rather than differences

Q

How do scatter graphs depict the different co - variables?

A

Either of the co - variables can occupy the x - axis or the y - axis, then each point displayed on the graph will coincide with x and y position of the co - variables

Q

When are bar charts used to display information?

A

Bar charts are used to display data that has been split into categories (discrete data) so the difference in mean values can easily be seen

Q

Why are the bars separated on a bar chart, what does this show?

A

The bars are separated on a bar chart in order to denote that we are dealing with separate conditions

Q

How are the bar graphs plotted?

A

The amount of frequency for each category is plotted on the y - axis whilst the categories are plotted on the x - axis

Q

How are histograms plotted?

A

Histograms have bars touching each other unlike in bar charts and this represents the data being dealt with is continuous data rather than discrete

Q

How does a histogram depict the co - variables on its graph?

A

The histogram has on the x - axis equal sized intervals of one category whilst the y - axis represents the frequency

Q

How is continuous data represented on a line graph?

A

Line graphs use points that are connected by lines to show how something changes in value

Q

How are line graphs plotted?

A

Line graphs have the IV plotted on the x - axis and the DV is plotted on the y - axis

Q

What is a normal distribution?

A

A normal distribution is a measure of certain variables; the frequency of these measurements should form a bell - shaped curve, which is symmetrical

16
Q

What are the two different types of skewed distributions?

A

There are positive skew distributions and negative skew distributions

17
Q

What occurs in a positive skewed distribution?

A

A positively skewed distribution is where most of the distribution is concentrated towards the left of the graph

18
Q

Where is the mean, median and mode placed when it comes to positive skewed distribution?

A

The mean is the lowest score, the median is in the middle and the mode is the highest score

19
Q

What occurs in a negative skewed distribution?

A

A negatively skewed distribution is where most of the distribution is concentrated towards the right of the graph

20
Q

Where is the mean, median and mode placed when it comes to negative skewed distribution?

A

The mean has the lowest score, the median is in the middle, the mode then has the highest score
