Visual Perception Flashcards
What are the 6 steps in visual perception?
1: Reception
2: Transduction
3: Transmission
4: Selection
5: Organisation
6: Interpretation
What is reception? (1)
Reception occurs when light is taken in from the retina when an image is ‘captured’
Describe the structure of the retina
Rods & Cones
What is transduction? (2)
Rods and cones change the light energy into electrical energy
What is transmission? (3)
Sending information along the optic nerve to the brain
What is selection? (4)
Cells that work together to respond to features e.g. lines, shapes, spots, colours, ect
What is organisation? (5)
The process of reassembling features of visual information in a meaningful way
What is interpretation? (6)
Understanding meaning to sensory information so we know what it represents
