What is visual literacy?
The ability to make meaning from information presented in a form of an image. Sometimes only one picture or an individual strip of frames. We read from left to right
What is a cartoon?
Drawing or sequence of drawings. It shows a humorous situation. There is generally a caption which is words. This includes caricature and satire
What do you cartoonist tried to convey in a cartoon?
Call tune is trying to convey a political message
What are techniques that cartoonists use?
- Visual distortions. They change or exaggerate in size, shape’s emotions or gestures.
- Does this to emphasise a point by drawing attention.
- It is funny and it is used to make a point using humour.
- Stereotypes and caricature
What is a stereotype?
A vastly over simplified view of a person or group. It is often insulting and give the cartoonist a shorthand way to make complex point quickly. It is based on peoples prejudice or ideas that they do not have proof of
What is a caricature?
It is the opposite of a stereotype. Exaggerated or distorted drawing of an individual highlighting what the artist sees as you need. It lens to humour and is used for political purposes. It conveys a stereotype
