What is poetry?
A composition in a verse that paints a picture by means of poetic devices. Such as figurative language, rhythm and rhyme
How do we analyse the theme or idea?
Every poem has a theme or main idea which conveys messages or intention of poet. This may be obvious or implied.
What is a narrative poem?
It tells a story
What is a lyric poem?
It describes personal feelings
How do we analyse the form of a poem?
Poems are written in a particular form. There is free verse, run on, poetic license, written in lines
What is a poem written on lines?
When a poem is written in lines it may be grouped in stanzas
What is a poem that may be written in single entities?
Not written in stanzas
What is a poem that is written in free verse?
Poet creates its own forms and has no restrictions. They may make use of poetic licenses which allows them to depart from restrictions to express more effectively
What is a poem that runs on?
Enjambement or run-on. It has no punctuation and it continues onto the next line
What is the diction?
It is known as the word choice. It creates the mood or atmosphere which sets the poem in the correct time and place mean in context. It influences rhythm of poem. Rhyming poem word choice is crucial
What is effective diction?
Jargon and slang are used for effect as well as repetition
What is the tone of a poem?
The tone of the poem roller veal the poet subject to view an attitude. It helps create desired mood or atmosphere which is achieved by diction, rhythm, sound.
What is the tone describe as?
May be described as friendly, sharp, sarcastic, ironic, angry, humorous and condescending
What is imagery?
Involve sense to conjure up word pictures which is achieved through a combination of littoral and figurative language. Metaphors, similes, personification for comparison. The same metaphor woven throughout poem is an extended metaphor. Sound devices such as alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia
How does imagery of a poem affect us?
It affects us emotionally and intellectually
