Virus reproduction Flashcards
1
Q
How do DNA viruses reproduce?
A
- Virus antigens attach to host cells surface
- Virus DNA inserted into the host cell
- Virus DNA is replicated by host enzymes
- Virus genes are transcribed to RNA which is translated to make viral protein coats.
- New virus particles are assembled and burst out of host cell.

Q
How do RNA Viruses reproduce?
A
The same way as the reproduction of the DNA virus, except, the viral RNA genome is replicated directly using an enzyme from the virus . Viral DNA is never made
3
Q
How do RNA retroviruses reproduce?
A
- Virus antigens attach to host’s cell surface
- Virus RNA inserted into the host cell
3a. Viral enzyme called reverse transcriptase reads viral RNA to form DNA
3b. The DNA is then integrated into the genome of the host cell. When the virus is reproducing, the DNA copy of the virus genome will be transcribed to RNA, which is then translated to make new viral proteins. - New virus particles are assembled then burst out of the host cell.
