Virtualisation is the process of creating a virtual environment of something.
What is server virtualisation?
Server virtualisation involves the hiding of server resources from server users
What is client (desktop) virtualisation?
Client (desktop) virtualisation seperates the computer desktop from the computer. The virtualised desktop is saved on a centralized server and not the physical machine/computer.
What is storage virtualisation?
Storage virtualisation is when multiple storage devices are pulled together to make what appears as one storage device.
What is cloud virtualisation?
Cloud computing is shared resources, software or data as a service through the internet.
What is hybrid virtualisation?
Hybrid cloud is a cloud computing environment which uses a mix of locally owned services, private cloud and public cloud services.
What are the advantages of virtualisation?
- Reduced long-term costs
- Increased use of devices
- Simplified disaster recovery
What are the disadvantages of virtualisation?
- Adds complexity
- Significant up-front costs to begin with
- Extra IT skills needed
