C
Major cause of severe dehydrating Gastro enteritis in young humans
Group A rotavirus
Pathogenesis of rotavirus
Ingestion -> infect cells of the villi of the small intestine -> damaged cells replaced by non absorbing immature crypt cells -> damaged cells may sloug into lumen of intestine -> diarrhea due to impaired sodium and glucose absorption -> excreted in stool
Children Rotavirus infections clinical presentation
Vomiting
Watery diarrhea
Fever
Abdominal pain
Sympyoms on adults , strong or mild ?
Mild
Are there rotavirus Vaccines ?
Still being evaluated
Diagnosis rests of virus in stool collected during illness
Immune electron microscopy
Particle agglutination
ELISA
Adenovirus characteristics
Non enveloped dsDNA
Adenovirus serotypes involved in gastro in children

Pathogenesid and lab of adenovirus
Same as rotavirus
