What are the 4 legal classes of VMPs?
- AVM-GSL - Authorised VMP available for general sale
- NFA-VPS - VMP for a non-food producing animal. VPS - Vet, pharmacist and suitable qualified person can supply with no prescription.
- POM-VPS - VMP that a vet, pharmacist, and a suitably qualified person can prescribe and supply with oral/written prescription
- POM-V - POM precribed by Vet. Vet and pharmacist can supply
What are the prescription requirements for POM-V and POM-VPS?
- Name, address and telephone number of prescriber
- Professional qualifications of the prescriber
- Date
- Name and address of owner/keeper
- Identification of animal (+ species)
- Premises of animal if different from owner.
- Signature of prescriber
- Name and quantity of product being prescribed
- Dosage and administration instructions
- Any necessary warnings
- Any withdrawal period (time between stopping medication and animal being slaughtered)
- If prescribed ‘under the cascade’
How long is a POM-V and POM-VPS valid for?
For 6 months.
-> CD Schedule 1-4 - 28 days
Repeatable prescriptions must be fully dispensed within how many months?
6 months.
What are the extra legal requirements for Schedule 2 and 3 CDs?
- Address of the prescriber
- RCVS registration number of the prescriber
- Form of drug
- Strength of drug
- Total quantity in words and figures
- Statement the item is prescribed for an animal/herd under the care of the veterinarian.
- Name and address of the recipient
- For installment dispensing, quantity and interval for the installments
