Vessels Thoracic limb Flashcards
Main arteries of the thoracic limb
-Subclavian artery
-Axillary artery
-Brachial artery
-median artery
Subclavian artery arises from where
-left subclavian = aorta
-right subclavian = brachiocephalic trunk which arises from aorta
What does the subclavian artery become after it passes lateral to first rib
It becomes the axillary artery
Superficial cervical artery
Branch of the subclavian artery that supplies blood to the superficial muscles of the base of the neck superficial cervical inn and muscles of the scapula and shoulder
Axillary artery branches
Everyone Loves Super Cold Beer
- external thoracic artery = superficial to pectoral muscle
- lateral thoracic artery = deep to pectoral altissimo dorsi cutaneous trouncing skin and mammae in females
- subscapular artery= to shoulder muscles scapula long head of triceps rhomboideus trapezius (branches into thoracodorsal artery and caudal circumflex numeral artery)
- cranial circumflex humeral artery = to biceps brachiocephalic shoulder joint (forms anastomosis with caudal circumflex numeral and subscapular)
- brachial artery = branches into deep brachial artery, bicipital artery, collateral ulnar artery, superficial brachial artery, transverse cubical artery, common interosseous artery , and median artery
Branches of the brachial artery (which is a branch of the axillary artery)
Do Big Cats Sit Together Calmly
- deep brachial artery = to triceps brachial muscle
-bicipital artery = to biceps brachii muscle
- collateral ulnar artery = to triceps brachii ulnar n and elbow
- superficial brachial artery = gives rise to cranial superficial antebrachial artery
- transverse cubical artery = to elbow and adjacent muscles
- common interosseous artery = branches into ulnar artery and cranial and caudal interosseous artery
- median artery = branches into deep antebrachial artery radial artery and median artery
Median artery
Branch of the brachial artery which is a branch of the axillary artery
Principle source of blood supply to manus of the dog forms the superficial palmar arch with a branch of the caudal interosseous artery
Branches of the subscapular artery (which is a branch of the axillary artery)
Throacodorsal artery = to latissimus dorsi there’s major and skin
Caudal circumflex humeral artery = to triceps brachii deltoideus, Coraco-brachialis, infraspinatus, shoulder joint
-forms an anastomosis with cranial circumflex numeral and subscapular arteries

Veins of the thoracic limb
- subclavian vein
-axillary vein
-brachial vein
-median vein
