ANS Parasympathetic Flashcards
Responsibilities of parasympathetic
Responsible for control of involuntary or visceral bodily functions
Effects of parasympathetic
Cardiovascular = decrease
Respiratory = decrease
Digestive = increase
Urinary = increase
Reproductive functions = increase
Parasympathetic nucleus brain stem
Cranial nerves
Long pre ganglionic neuron
Short post ganglionic neuron
Parasympathetic nucleus sacral segments
Spinal cord start
Long pre ganglionic neuron
Short post ganglionic neuron
Motor nucleus of brain stem largest nerve
Vagus nerve
Parasympathetic pre ganglionic pathways
- CN III, VII, IX (covered with the head)
- CN X (Vegas nerve) thoracic and abdominal viscera
- sacral spinal cord (pelvic viscera)
CN X Vagus Nerve
Thorax and abdomen start at nucleus of vagus nerve have terminal ganglia within organs innervates and their post ganglionic pathway is within organ
Go over slides 13 and 14 with Vegas nerves
Right Vegas nerve
Trachea
Right vagus nerve
Dorsal and ventral vagus branch
Dorsal vagus trunk
Diaphragm
Describe the vagus nerve orientation in thoracic cavity
Trachea
Left recurrent laryngeal nerve right against trachea inside of right vagus nerve
Left and right vagus nerve flanking trachea to cranial esophagus
Right recurrent laryngeal nerve right against trachea inside of the left vagus nerve
Dorsal vagus branch flanking esophagus
Ventral vagus branch flanking esophagus
Diaphragm
Sacral spinal cord pre ganglionic pathway
Gray matter, ventral root, spinal nerve, ventral branch , lumbosacral plexus, pelvic nerve and then pelvic plexus
Sacral spinal cord post ganglionic pathway
Branches from pelvic plexus to pelvic organs
Ganglion within pelvic plexus
Autonomic reflexes
Sensory input = peripheral or visceral receptor afferent neuron
Central connection = in the enchephalon or spinal cord interneuron
Output = pre and post ganglionic neuron
Vagus nerve preganglionic pathway abdomen
Parasympathetic nucleus of vagus nerve, vagus nerve, vagosympathetic trunk, vagus nerve, dorsal and ventral agar branches, dorsal and ventral vagus trunks, dorsal fatal trunk joints celiaconesenteric plexus via Celiac branch, ventral vagus trunk goes directly to stomach and liver
Vegas nerve pre ganglionic pathway thorax
Parasympathetic nucleus of Vegas nerve, vagus nerve, vagosympathetic trunk, vagus nerve, vagaries branches to heart lungs etc
