Vertebral comlum Flashcards
Anulus fibrosis
Anulus fibrosis is the fibrocartilaginous part of the disc that is smaller posteriorly, and it covers the nucleus pulposus. It also is attached to the anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments.
Nucleus Pulposus
Nucleus Pulposus is the gelatinous layer that is present inside the anulus fibrosis in the intervertebral disks. It acts as a shock absorber and over time, loses fluid and eventually is replaced by fibro cartilage.
4 stages of herniated disc
degeneration, prolapse, extrusion and sequestration
What herniated discs does it normally occur in
L4/L5/S1 in older people, C5/C6/C7 of younger people
Facet joints, what disease is related to it
Synovial joints are found between the superior and inferior articular facets of the adjacent vertebrae. They help with free movement. When they are affected by osteoarthritis, are near the intervertebral foramen and osteophytes may impinge on the spinal nerve and cause pain.
Which column is the smallest
Cervical
What process comes out of all the cervical vertebrae foramina
Transverse foramina
