Ventricular System Flashcards
1
Q
Lateral (inferior, posterior horns) ventricles
A
- more superior
Anterior horn = begins at front of brain
Posterior horn = posterior point of brain
Inferior horn = wraps down and forward
Function: production of CSF to cushion brain
2
Q
Foramen of Monro
A
- between lateral and 3rd ventricles
3
Q
Third ventricle
A
- center of ventricular system
Function = drainage and circulation of CSF to cushion brain
4
Q
Cerebral aqueduct
A
- connects third and fourth ventricles
- divides midbrain into 2 halves (anterior = peduncles, posterior = tectum)
5
Q
4th Ventricle
A
- extends down into BS
Function = drainage and circulation of CSF to cushion brain
6
Q
Central canal
A
- entrance to 4th ventricle
7
Q
Choroid plexus
A
- under corpus callosum
*spongy ‘coral’ in lateral ventricles - produces CSF
Blood supply: anterior communicating artery
8
Q
Flow
A
1) Lateral ventricles
- -> 2) Monro foramina
- -> 3) 3rd ventricle
- -> 4) cerebral aqueduct
- -> 5) 4th ventricle
- -> 6) Luscka & Magendie foramina (exits 4th)
- -> 7) subarachnoid space
- -> 8) flows around SC and brain
- -> 9) absorbed thru arachnoid villi
