It was Military Rule. Regional leaders took control through armies and taking power through Caracas. The political power was military power. Whoever is the strongest is the winner.

Concept that the U.S. laid out that European cannot interfere with L.A. through further colonization. British decided to push Venezuela’s border lines. U.S. got involved an pushed British out of Venezuela once again showing their powerhouse role in the whole.
How did the petroleum industry shape Venezuela? How does the economy in the 1970s compare with the current situation?
Venezuela’s economy relied 95% on oil. At first, Venezuela was making tons of money. They were different from other L.A. countries that grew their crops. Venezuela bought anything they needed because that’s how much money the oil was bringing in. However, now that oil prices went down, Venezuela isn’t making that much money. Now there’s food shortages and increased migration.
What actions did Hugo Chavez take when he came to power?
He opposed the U.S. He was to distribute wealth, and take extreme steps to increase his power. So, he disbanded the supreme court and legislature and wrote a whole new constitution that eliminated checks and balances. Campaigned on a platform for radical change.
