Veins Flashcards
Azygos (R only)
last vein entering into the cranial vena cava, originates dorsally in the abdomen brings deoxygenated blood from the dorsal intercostal veins as far cranially as the third or fourth intercostal space
Internal jugular (R&L)
drains from head/neck; internal to external jugular, drains into external jugular
External jugular (R&L)
from head/neck; internal jugular drains into it; drains into brachiocephalic vein which then leads into cranial vena cava
Subclavian (R&L)
from axillary, with ext. jugular drains into brachiocephalic vein which leads into cranial vena cava
Brachiocephalic
receives lymph fluid from L and R tracheal duct and thoracic duct (L); formed by ext. jugular and subclavian vein draining into it
Cranial vena cava
drains into the R atrium after its formation by the union of the R and L brachiocephalic veins at the thoracic inlet
Caudal vena cava
enters the R atrium caudally
Great Cardiac
begins in the paraconal interventricular groove, returns blood supplied to the heart by the left coronary artery; terminates in the coronary sinus
