who was the sample

How did the research get their sample?
They put up posters in the different departments and had some presentations. Psychology students were given course credit.

60 students with an average age of 22. 36 male and 24 females.
Why did the research use a student sample?
because in student samples there was a naturally occurring state of acute stress like test.

During a non exam period and an exam period.
How did they measure stress?
- Using the global measure of perceived stress.

Why did the use saliva to measure cortisol levels?
To avoid the confounding variable of ventepunctured induced stress.
How was the cortisol levels determined?
Using the cortisol Elisa kit.
How did they assess short-term memory?
Recall test of 20 words during exam period and non exam period, elevator reversal costing, telephone search, and telephone search while counting.
What were the results of the study?
that the examin-ation period was associated with a significant increase in self-reported levels of stress.However, the expected concomitant increase in cortisol levels was not observed.
