Russek et al Flashcards
What was the aim of this study?
to explore prenatal caring in relation to health over a course of 35 years.
Who were the sample?
Harvard men who participated in the master stress study in 1950.
What was the original study?
The aim was to explore how young men reacted to stressful situations and to how that might predicted future health problems. There were two laboratory stresses over a course of 3 weeks. The first stressor was mental arithmetic and while the participants were solving these problems they were being yelled and harassed by the experimenter. The second stressor included the use of sonic confusion by an instrument that was delayed by a couple seconds while the participants retold a story from memory as accurately and as fast as possible under the threat of electric shock.
How did they measure stress in the original study.
Then the researchers measured the stress physiologically by measuring blood pressure and heart rate. Also was given an interview
How did they measure their parents relationship in original study?
the participants filled out a test and there were two critical questions which were examining the warmth and the closenesses of the relationship with their parents. The participants rated their parents on a scale from 1-9. Then they were asked to give an open-ended response about their parents and to describe them and their relationship.
What did researchers do with the original study information?
he researchers gathered medical and personal history information from the participants. The participants rated their parents lower on the scale suffered from illness like hypertension, ulcers, and alcoholism.
