Vasculature of the heart Flashcards
Where do the aortic arteries arise from?
Aortic sinus at the beginning of the ascending aorta
Where specifically are the aortic sinus’ found?
Behind the left and right flaps of the aortic valve.
At what point of the heart beat do the coronary arteries fill?
When the heart is relaxed, the back flow of blood in the aorta fills the valve pockets allowing blood to flow into the coronary arteries.
What does the left coronary artery branch into?
Left anterior descending branches first then the LCA branches into the circumflex artery and the left marginal artery.
In approximately 20% of individuals, what does the left circumflex artery contribute to? And what is the other artery that contributes to this vessel?
Posterior interventricular artery (PIv)
Right coronary artery on the posterior surface of the heart.
What two vessels could contribute to the posterior interventricular artery? (Different in different people)
In ~20% of people- left circumflex
In ~80% of people- right coronary artery
What does the right coronary artery contribute to in all individuals?
Posterior interventricular artery
What are the smallest cardiac veins called?
Thebesian veins
Where is the coronary sinus located?
In the coronary sulcus
Where does the coronary sulcus lie?
Posterior surface of the heart. Runs between the left atrium and left ventricle.
Where does the coronary sinus drain into?
In the right atrium, between the right antrioventricular orifice and the right inferior vena cava orifice
What are the 5 main contributors to the coronary sinus?
Great cardiac vein, Small cardiac vein, Middle cardiac vein, Left posterior ventricular vein, Left marginal vein.
Which main cardiac veins are found on the anterior surface of the heart?
Great cardiac vein, Small cardiac vein
Which cardiac veins are on the posterior surface of the heart?
Middle cardiac vein, Left marginal vein, Left posterior ventricular vein.
