Heart wall Flashcards
What are the 3 main layers of the heart wall? (From insider layer)
Endocardium
Myocardium
Epicardium
What type of epithelium line the endocardium?
Simple squamous epithelial
What thin layer is found between the endocardium and myocardium? What is found in this layer?
Subendocardium layer. Contains layers of loose fibrous connective tissue. Vessels and nerves of the heart. Purkinge fibres found here. Damage can cause arrythmias
What muscle types are found in the myocardium?
Cardiac muscle and involuntary striated muscle
What is the layer between the myocardium and the epicardium?
Subepicardial layer
What does the epicardial layer of the heart derive from?
The visceral layer of the pericardium.
What is the epicardium composed of?
Connective tissue and fat
What lines the outer surface of the epicardium?
Simple squamous epithelial cells
