vasculature & innervation Flashcards
where does gas exchange happen ?
when pulmonary capillaries contact alveoli
what does bronchial arteries supply?
oxygenated blood; supply bronchi, lung roots, visceral pleura
what do bronchial veins supply ?
drainage to right azygous veins and left accessory hemiazygous vein
what runs in the costal groove of each rib ?
intercostal vein, artery and nerve
why is the costal groove important ?
to avoid damage when inserting chest drain
what drains the lung parenchyma ?
superficial (subpleural) lymphatic plexus
what does the deep plexus do ?
drain the structures of the lung root
where do the superficial lymphatic plexus and deep plexus drain into ?
they empty into the tracheobronchial nodes
where is the trachiobronchial nodes ?
located around the bifurcation of the trachea and the main bronchi.
what happens after drainage is in the tracheobronchial ?
lymph passes into right and left bronchomediastinal trunks
where does the left side drain ?
to the left venous angle via the throacic duct
