hypersensitivity Flashcards
what are the different types of hypersensitivity mediated by ?
Type1– IgE mediated
Type2– IgM and IgG antibodies against cell-surface antigens
Type3- IgM and IgG antibodies against soluble antigens and form immune
complexes
Type4– cell mediated (Tcells)
What does type 1 cause ?
allergies, anaphylaxis, allergic rhinitis (‘hayfever’), eczema
what is type 2 usually involved in ?
frequently involved in AI conditions
what can type 2 cause ?
AI haemolytic anaemia
Graves disease
goodpastures syndrome
transfusion reaction
explain AI haemolytic anaemia
type 2
blood disorder where RBCs are destroyed more rapidly than they are produced
explain Graves disease
type 2
fault of thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibodies
production of thyroxine increases and an overreactive of the thyroid glands
explain goodpastures syndrome
type 2
antibodies attack the basement membranes in lungs and kidneys
explain a transfusion reaction
type 2
mismatched red blood cells are rapidly destroyed by specific antibodies
what does type 3 cause ?
pneumonitis
systemic lupus erythematousus
serum sickness
