Vascular disorders Flashcards
arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
A brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM) - a tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain may be congenital, or may develop later in life
Epidural hematoma(EDH)
A traumatic accumulation of blood between the inner table of the skull and the stripped off dural membrane. In 85 to 95% of patients this type of trauma results in an overlying fracture of the skull.
Brainischemia (cerebral ischemia, cerebrovascular ischemia)
A condition in which there is insufficient blood flow to the brain to meet metabolic demand, leading to poor oxygen supply, or cerebral hypoxia and to the death of brain tissue (cerebral infarction)
Cerebral infarction
Death of brain tissue resulting from a blockage in the blood vessels, supplying blood to the brain can be due to atherosclerosis or an embolus
Intracerebral hemorrhage
Occurs when a disease blood vessel within the brain bursts, allowing blood to leak inside the brain. This can be a life-threatening event.
Subarachnoid hemorrhage
Leading into the subarachnoid space that may be caused by a ruptured aneurysm
