What is a true aneurysm?
Dilation of all three layers on the vessel
What is endovascular repair?
The placement of a catheter in an artery and then deployment of a graft intraluminally
What is PVD?
Occlusive atherosclerotic disease in the lower extremities.
Most commonly in the SFA in Hunter’s canal
Symptoms of PVD
Intermittent claudication Rest pain Sensorimotor impairment Erectile dysfunction Tissue loss
What is intermittent claudication
Pain / cramping or both of the lower extremity after a specific walking distance, relieved by stopping and standing still. Occurs in a reproducible pattern over a specific distance
What is rest pain?
Pain in the foot which arises at rest , classically occurs at night and wakes the patient requiring them to hang their leg off the side of the bed. Pain is usually over the distal metatarsals
Signs of PVD
Absent pulses, bruits, decreased hair growth, muscular atrophy, thick toenails, tissue necrosis, ulcers.
