Vapours Flashcards
What are unsaturated vapours?
Unsaturated vapours are vapours that are not in equilibrium with their liquid phase. This means that more liquid can evaporate into the vapour phase without any condensation occurring.
What are saturated vapours?
Saturated vapours are vapours that are in equilibrium with their liquid phase. At this point, the vapour cannot hold any more moisture without some of it condensing back into liquid.
How is saturated vapour pressure (S.V.P) related to boiling?
Saturated vapour pressure is the pressure at which a liquid’s vapour is in equilibrium with its liquid phase at a given temperature. Boiling occurs when the S.V.P of a liquid equals the external atmospheric pressure.
What is the dew point?
The dew point is the temperature at which air becomes saturated with water vapour and water begins to condense into dew.
What is the difference between humidity and relative humidity?
Humidity is the amount of water vapour present in the air.
Relative humidity is the percentage of moisture in the air relative to the maximum amount the air can hold at a given temperature.
