Valvular Disease Flashcards
What is aortic stenosis?
Narrowing of the aortic valve
What does stenosis aortic valve cause?
LV hypertrophy, dilation and failure
Symptoms and signs of aortic regurgitation
exertional dyspnoea, collapsing pulse, wide pulse pressure, displaced apex beat
What is mitral stenosis
Narrowing of the mitral valve
What does mitral stenosis lead to?
pulmonary hypertension, right heart dilation with
possible tricuspid and pulmonary regurgitation
Symptoms of mitral stenosis
dyspnoea, haemoptysis, LA; enlargement, mitral facies, normal pulse, increased JVP, RV heave
What is mitral regurgitation
Mitral valve doesn’t close properly - allowing backwards leakage
What does mitral regurgitation lead to?
LV hypertrophy via increased end systolic pressure and volume in acute, pansystolic, leading to hypertrophy in chronic
Symptoms of mitral regurgitation
dyspnoea, pulmonary oedema, fatigue, exhaustion,
