valifity Flashcards
researcher bias
researcher directly or indirectly influences the result of a study
demand characteristics
participants unconsciously work out the aim and act differently
social desirability
participants give the response that they think will show them the best possible light, therefore not a true reflection of their thoughts
how do we deal with validity issues
researcher bias and demand characteristics - double blind procedure. both don’t know true aims of study
social desirability- single blind procedures, participants unaware
demand characteristics
when participants act in a way to either help or sabotage the
researchers results
as they’ve have guessed the aims of the research
therefore it’s invalid
ecological validity
how far results from the research can be applied to real life , if research is low in ecological validity it doesn’t reflect real life
external reliability
the extent to which a measure varies from one occasion to another. Low reliabillity would indicate that there’s quite a bit of variation over time
What is construct validity
Looks at how well the Methods and procedures employed in a study correctly measure the constructs they’re supposed to.
