VALIDITY Flashcards
1
Q
Define validity
A
- The extent to which a test or task measures what it claims it measures.
2
Q
Internal validity
A
Measures whether the results are due to the manipulation of the iv and not confounding variables.
3
Q
External validity
A
Whether the results can be generalised beyond the research setting.
4
Q
Define ecological validity
A
- Whether results can be generalised to real life settings
5
Q
Population validity
A
- Whether results can be generalised to a wider population
6
Q
Temporal validity
A
- The validity of the findings in relation to the progression of time.
7
Q
Predictive validity
A
- The extent to which a test can accuratlety predict future outcomes (behaviours)
8
Q
Concurrent validity
A
- The comparisons between 2 tests of a paticular behaviour.
- With 1 test already established as a valid measure of behaviour and other as a new test.
- If the results of both tests correlate then the new test is valid.
9
Q
Face validity
A
- Whether a test superfically appears to be a relevant measure, measuring what it claims to measure.
10
Q
Mundane realism
A
- The extent to which experimental procedures and tasks are similar to events that occur in the real world.
