Normal Discharge
1.5 g daily, (leukorrhea) odorless, clear white, sticky
increased discharge
sexual excitement, ovulation, pregnancy, after menses, emotions, irritants

Bacterial vaginosis, Trichomoniasis, Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC)
BV risk factors
of sexual partners
IUC Douching
tobacco use
Imbalance in normal flora
Bacterial Vaginosis
1/3 to 1/2 asymptomatic
– Vaginal discharge with “fishy” odor
– Increased qty of discharge
– Off white or gray discharge
BV Treatment
Prescription, clindamycin or metronidazole. No need to treat partner. 2g oral dose of mn
Trichomoniasis
StI, Men are asymptomatic, 50% of women are asymptomatic. sx in six month caused by protozoa.
tricomonasis sx
yellow or green discharge. fishy order, foamy discharge, dysurea
Trichomoniasis treatment
Metronidazole 2g once or 500 Big x 7 days.
Treat partner
avoid intercourse until therapy is complete
Vulvovaginal Candidiasis aka yeast infection
caused by Candida albicans fungi (80-92%)
high dose OC or broad spectrum antibiotics can cause.
Uncontrolled diabetes.
VVC sx
intense itching
cottage cheese discharge
ODORLESS
dysurea
VVC self treatment
Yogurt, decrease sugar, DC causative drug
VVC pharm treatment
tiazoles orally
imidazole cream
dont insert if pregnant
use sanitary pad not tampon.
