Protects you from future infections

Small amount of dead or inactive microorganisms
What do the dead/inactive microorganisms carry?
Antigens
These cause the body to produce antibodies
What does MMR stand for?
Mumps
Measles
Rubella
What happens if live microorganisms enter the body after the vaccine?
WBC will rapidly produce antibodies to kill the pathogen
Why are booster injections needed?
When some vaccinations wear off
Why are booster injections used?
To increase the level of antibodies again
What are the positives of a vaccination?
Help control infectious diseases
Big outbreaks of disease can be prevented
What are the negatives of a vaccination?
They do not always work
Can have bad reactions to them
