UW 2 Flashcards
AE’s of INH?
Peripheral Neuropathy
Hepatotoxic
Sideroblastic Anemia
What pts require immediate exploratory laparotomy?
Hemodynamically unstable and Penetrating trauma
Peritonitis
Evisceration of any organ
Pt with penetrating abdominal trauma, hemodynamically unstable with unequivocal FAST?
Immediate laparotomy
When is DPL done?
Hemodynamically unstable pts with Blunt trauma, not penetrating and inconclusive FAST
Drugs that cause Vit D Deficiency?
Phenytoin
Carbamazepine
Rifampin
Serum phosphorus in Vit D deficiency?
Low
What impacts the homeostasis of the forms of plasma calcium and what are they?
Extracellular pH level
Ionized (45%) = Active
Albumin-bound (40%)
Bound to irorganic/organic anions (15%)
Increased extracellular pH results in what effect on calcium?
Increase in affinity of serum albumin to calcium
High albumin-bound Ca
Low ionized Ca
(Resp alkalosis = high altitude)
What happens to pulmonary vasculature as a result of alveolar hypoxia?
Pulm vasoconstriction to help normalize shunting and ventilation-perfusion mismatching within lung
Compensation for chronic hypercapnia?
Renal tubular compensation - increased HCO3 retention
Two gynecological pathologies where diagnostic laparoscopy is done rather than radiology?
Endometriosis
Pelvic adhesions
When is EMB done?
To evaluate uterine lining when clinical suspicion for hyperplasia or carcinoma
Women >45 w/abnormal or postmenopausal bleeding
Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome
Presentation
Primary amenorrhea BL inguinal masses Breast development No/little axillary/pubic hair Blind vaginal pouch Karyotype 46XY
Tx for Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome?
Gonadectomy after completion of puberty to allow for complete breast development/height
- 5% risk of testicular cancer
After, estrogen therapy
Painless genital ulcer?
Treponema pallidum (Syphillis) Granuloma inguinale (donovanosis)
