Uvea (uveitis 2) Flashcards
The most common form of uveitis is
Acute anterior uveitis
Acute anterior uveitis is usually bi/uni lateral ?
Unilateral
Symptoms of Acute anterior uveitis [2]
- Rapid painful loss of vision
- Photophobia
Signs of Acute anterior uveitis
- Lid edema
- Corneal edema
- Red eye
- KPs
- Aqueous cells and Aqueous flares
- Hypopyon
- Hyphema
- Muddy Iris
- Miosis and irregular pupil (PS)
- vitreous opacity
What is the effect of Acute anterior uveitis on IOP
Early : high due to glaucoma
Late : low due to ciliary body shut down
What’s the most common site KPs? And what is called?
Mid and inferior zone of the cornea(wedge-shaped) – arlt’s triangle
the scattering of a light beam by a medium containing microscopic suspended particles.. this is called
Tyndal phenomenon
Indicate to active inflammation
Aqueous cells (its number reflects severity)
Aqueous flares
The leakage of plasmoid aqueous into the aqueous humor
Muddy iris
Loss of iris patern due to accumulation of exudate
types of posterior adhesion
- localized (pear shaped)
- multiple (Festooned pupil)
- Annular (seclusio-pupillae)
complication of acute anterior uvitis
- cataract & glaucoma
- posterior and anterianterior synechia
- formation of Cyclitic membrane
Cyclitic membrane
what is it? and its complication
it’s result due to fibrosis of exudates present behind the lens (from ciliary
body) ,contraction of this membrane lead to tractional retinal detachment, ciliary body detachment
Behçet’s disease
- Recurrent acute anterior uveitis with hypopyon
- Recurrent orogenital ulceration
- More common in male
- commonly Bilateral
Vogt-koyanagi-harada syndrome
