A full backup is slow to create, but fast, but fast / straightforward to restore
An incremental backup is fast to create, but slow to restore as each vertion needs to be restored sequentially

Data is stored in hard disks whenever there is available space, meaning it can become scattered across different sections of the disk
Defragging a disk reorganises related data, so they can be accessed faster.
