What is a NIC?
A Network Interface Card(NIC) is a computer component which is used to connect to a network.
What is a MAC?
A Media Access Control(MAC) is a component within the NIC which give the device a unique identification(Can’t be changed)
How is data sent over a network(Basic)?
Data is broken into small network packets
What is a Switch?
A device which forwards packets to devices in other segments of the LAN
It also uses MAC address
What is a Router?
A device which routes packets between networks(Must need two networks to function)
It also uses IP addresses
What is a WAP?
A Wireless Access Point allows a wireless connection to a wired network using the Wi-Fi standard (transmission medium = air)
A WAP may be standalone and connected to a router or be part of a router itself (= a wireless router)
