Proxy servers are intermediaries between two devices communicating

Proxy means to “Act as a substitute” - so the messages it sends look as if they originated from the proxy server (Anonymity and Geolocation)

Also, before forwarding responses back to the client, it can filter them to ensure they are safe to receive (With the firewall)
