A domain name is the string that corresponds to an IP address

A
A Domain Name System(DNS) translates between an IP address and a Domain name

DNS Steps
A
The web browser acts as a client and connects to a DNS server to check whether the domain name is in its database
The DNS server checks for the domain’s IP address in its database. If it doesn’t have it, it then acts as the client and connects to other DNS servers until it finds it.
When a DNS server has the IP address, it’s returned to the original client and so the user can connect to website
