Address, Data and Control Buses Flashcards
1
Q
What is a bus?
A
A collection of wires through which data is transmitted
The speed of a bus is measured in megaherts(MHz)
The size of a bus (its width) it how many bits it can transfer at a time
E.G a 64 bit computer has buses with 64-bit widths
2
Q
What is a address bus?
A
A address bus sends a memory address along the bus from the CPU to the memory. To fetch/write data, the CPU needs to tell the RAM the address
(Undirectional)
3
Q
What is a Data Bus?
A
A data bus sends the actual data to and from the memory
(Bidirectional)
4
Q
What is a control Bus?
A
A control bus carries commands from the cpu and statue meffages from other hardware devices
(Bidirectional)
