Sx and ix of UTI in pregnancy
A
Sx- FUNDHIPS Pain/burning, frequecy, urgency, blood/mucus in urine lower abdo pain dyspareunia, smoul smelling urine systemic infection
Ix- urinanalysis- performed at every antenatal visit
Urine MCS- at booking
Protein (renal, preeclampsia)
Glycosuria (TDM)
nitrits (UTI)

Mx of UTI in pregnancy
A
Asymptomatic- MCS- ABx
immediate Abd treat for 7days
Nitrofurantoin (avoid at term) or amoxicillin, cephalexin
if see GBS- write so give IV BenPen at delivery
UTI in preg- no visible heamtura advise and general care (drink) MSU before ABx 1st line nitrofurantoin (avoid at term) 2nd- amox, cephalexin
Pylonephritis- cephalexin, cefuroxime
Trimehoprim is contracindicated 1st trim
