What is the uterus?
Site of implantation of a fertilized ovum, development of the fetus during pregnancy, and labor. Source of menstrual flow of fertilization does not occur.
What is the fundus?
Dome shaped area above tubes.
What is the body?
Tapering central portion
What is the cervix?
Narrow opening into the vagina
What is the uterine cavity?
Interior of the body
What is the myometrium?
Middle muscular layer of the uterus, consists of smooth muscle and forms the bulk of the uterine wall.
During childbirth, coordinated contractions of uterine muscles help expel the fetus.
What is the endometrium?
The innermost part of the uterine wall.
It nourishes a growing fetus or is shed each month during menstruation of fertilization does not occur.
