What are the general considerations of male breast carcinoma?
Rate with incidence being 1% of all breast cancer.
Average age of occurrence is 70.
Increased incidence in men with prostate cancer.
First degree relatives of men with breast cancer are at high risk.
BRCA 2 mutations are common in men with breast cancer.
Prognosis is worse in men than women.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Patient usually presents with a painless lump.
Physical exam will show hard, I’ll defined, non tender mass beneath the nipple or areola.
What is the treatment for male breast carcinoma?
Should be referred to generally surgery.
Mastectomy
Radiation
Chemo
What is the prognosis with 5 year survival?
Node negative disease-88%
Node positive disease- 69%
