Use of ICT in Food Technology Flashcards
How are computers used in the food industry?
For designing products (CAD-Computer aided design). They can be used to help in the manufacture of products. (CAM-Computer aided manufacture).
Why is CAD used?
So that mathematical work is done speedily and with great accuracy. Allow designers to work quickly and efficiently. Can model ideas without having to produce a real dish. Modelling saves money for manufacturers.
What are the elements of design?
Drawing ideas, risk assessment, modelling changes to a recipe, sensory evaluations, nutritional and costing analysis.
How can CAD be used to present important information about costing, nutrition, sensory tests etc?
Star diagrams/radar diagrams, spreadsheets, bar charts.
How is drawing and photographing helpful in designing?
Because it shows the changes that occur when recipes are modified, it shows how the finished product should look. It ables you to show food from different angles and can identify areas for development.
What are flow chart used for?
They are a way of showing complex ideas in a simple diagram.
