Eliminated the US Civil Service Commission and created 3 new agencies to take its place: Office of Personnel Mgt (OPM), Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) and Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA). (1978)
OPM-executive branch’s HR department.
MSPB-prohibits consideration of marital status, political activity and affiliation in dealing with federal civilian employees.
FLRA- enforces federal civilian employee rights to form unions.
The Civil Service Reform Act
Requires Congress to abide by 11 specific employment laws that already applied to other employees (1995)
The Congressional Accountability Act
Sometimes referred to as the “Lincoln Law”. Prohibits making and using false records to get claims paid (1863)
The False Claims Act
Cabinet-level organization created to consolidate security efforts after 9/11. Includes ICE and E-Verify (2002)
The Homeland Security Act
Governmental agencies must make known to the public their data collection and storage activities (1974)
The Privacy Act
Passed immediately following 9/11, gives government authority to intercept wire, oral and electronic communications relating to terrorism, computer fraud, and abuse offenses and allows sharing of that information in the interest of law enforcement (2001)
The Uniting and Strengthening America by providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (The USA PATRIOT Act)
