urinary system Flashcards
How does the Urinary system work briefly
Waste urea from the blood is filtered through the kidneys. Urea is any waste left over from digestion of nutrients.
State the functions of kidneys
Homeostasis- Balance of electrolytes and salts
Blood Pressure Regulation
Blood Cell Production
Excecretes waste from blood
What is the function of the ureters
Tubes carrying urine from kidneys to the bladder. Muscles in the ureter walls contract to empty urine through the urethra
what is the tissue that anchors the kidneys to its surroundings
renal fascia
what is the hormone released for blood pressure increase and the activation
renin and angotension
what products are excecreted
toxins
salts
urea
metabolic waste
List the organs inside the kindeys
Renal Pelvis- connecting medulla to ureter Renal vein- Blood away from kidneys Renal Artery- Blood to kindey Nephrons- Filtration occours Prymids/ Medulla
First stage of filtration
Blood enters via aferent artioles
under capillary pressure water and toxins are exectreted but blood and protein left behined
second stage of filteration
Filtrate passes into proximal convoluted tubes then into distal convoluted tubes for re-absorbtion of essential nutrients
Third stage of filtration
Nephron straightens out into medulla, along renal pelvis and into ureters
