lymphatic system/ immune Flashcards
what are the 4 structures of the lymphatic system
capillaries, vessels, nodes, ducts
Role of lymph capillaries
Take up excess fluid from tissues and unite to form lymphatic vessels
Role of lymphatic vessels
Similar to veins but carry lymph fluid. Valves on the structure allow fluid in but not out.
where are lymphatic vessels NOT found
Teeth, CNS, Bone Marrow
Functions of the spleen
In abdomen
Produces and Destroys cells
role of the Lymphatic Node
filter bacteria (some may become swollen if tissues are infected)
provide fresh lymphocytes and phagocytes for the blood stream
produce anti bodies and anti toxins
Role of Lymphatic Ducts
Conveying lymph back into the blood stream. Devided into two ducts.
How are the lymphatic and circulatory system connected
Lymphatic is a channel for which excess fluid passes back into the blood stream that has escaped the capilaries.
How are the lymphatic and circulatory system connected
Lymphatic is a channel for which excess fluid passes back into the blood stream that has escaped the capilaries. Fluid is collected partly by blood capillaries and partly by lymph capillaries.
phagocyte
destroys the antigen
lymphocyte
white blood cells producing anti-bodies
afferent vessel
arriving vessel at the nodes
efferent vessel
exiting vessel from the node
where do the lymphatic ducts drain into
Subclavian vein
where does the right lymphatic duct collect lymph from
right side of chest, head, neck and right arm
