Upper limb - movement and Grips Flashcards
Name the 5 general functions of the upper limb (MSSPE)
- Manipulation
- Sensation
- Stabilisation
- Protection
- Expression/Communication
Describe/show abduction and adduction of the fingers
and
(radial) adduction/abduction of the thumb
Describe/show palmar abduction/adduction of the thumb
and
flexion/extension of the fingers
show extension/flexion of the thumb (saddle joint)
show reposition/opposition of the thumb
and
bending/flattening of the fingers
make a cylinder (power) grip
make a hook (power) grip
make a span/ball/palmar (power) grip
Name the Precision grips of the hand
- terminal opposition (two fingertip “pincer”)
- sub-terminal opposition (tri-pod, distal meta-carpal pinch)
- pulp grip (pulpy bit of finger, the “okay” sign mixed with chef’s pinch)
- scribe grip (like pulp, but to hold a pen)
- Lateral pinch grip/key grip (gentle fist thumb flat over curl of pointer)
Name the Power grips of the hand
- cylinder
- hook
- span/ball
which muscle groups generally facilitate precision and power grips?
forearm and intrinsic hand muscles
what type of movement might:
(flexor carpi ulnaris)
and
(flexor carpi radialis)
produce?
flex elbow and wrist:
what type of movement might:
(Palmaris longus) produce?
flex elbow and wrist
what type of movement might:
(Flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus) produce?
flex wrist and fingers
