upper limb anatomy-inc shoulder Flashcards
Lesser tuberosity
situated on the medially, on the anterior surface on the humerus
-attachment for subscapularis
greater tuberosity
located laterally on the humerus with an anterior and posterior surface
- attachment for 3 rotator cuffs (supraspinatuc, infraspinatus and teres minor
anatomical neck
adjoins the head of the humerus across the epiphyseal line
surgical neck
a bony constriction at the proximal end of the shaft of the humerus
lateral and medial epicondyle (humerus)
the bony prominent on either side of the elbow
- lateral epicondyle is above the capitulum
- medial epicondyle is above the trochlea
capitulum
articulates with the head of the radius
trochlea
articulates with the trochlea notch of the ulna
coronoid fossa
a depression at the distal end of the humerus, on the cranial aspect of the condyle. when the elbow is flexed it accommodates the coronoid process of the ulna.
radial fossa
a slight depression on the distal end of the humerus. it sits superiorly to the capitulum and receives the radial head when elbow is flexed.
olecranon fossa
a depression on the posterior surface of the distal humerus, it receives the ulna during extension of the arm
radial tuberosity
a large bony projection on the medial surface of the proximal radius
interosseous membrane
a fibrous tissue with an oblique orientation from the radius to the ulna
radial styloid process
a bony projection found on the lateral surface of the distal radius, a conical projection that extends obliquely toward the carpal bones (thumb side)
ulnar styloid process
a prominence on the medial aspect of the distal ulnar, projects distally towards the triquetral bone (little finger side)
olecranon process
the proximal part of ulnar that forms the bony prominence of the posterior side of the elbow
