What is the carpal tunnel?
formed by the carpal bones and the flexor retinaculum
what passes through the carpal tunnel?
median nerve and 9 flexor tendons
What is carpal tunnel syndrome?
swelling of anything in the carpal tunnel leading to compression of nerves
What is the most common cause of carpal tunnel syndrome?
idiopathic
What does the patient experience in carpal tunnel syndrome?
parathesiae in the median nerve innervated digits usually worse at night
What test is performed by percussing over the median nerve?
Tinel’s test
Which test is performed by holding the wrists in the hyper flexed position?
Phalen’s test
What is cubital tunnel syndrome?
compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow
where does the ulnar nerve usually get compressed?
behind the medial epicondyle
how would weakness of ulnar nerve innervated muscles present?
abduction of the index finger and adductor pollicis
what tests are done in cubital syndrome?
