What do upper motor neuron defects give rise to?
weakness, spacisity , hyperreflexia and extensor plantar response
What does lower motor neuron defects give rise to?
Weakness, reduced tone and hypo- or areflexia

what are other types of CP?
Ataxic and athetoid
Damage to where causes ataxic CP?
the cerebellum
Damage to where causes athetoid CP?
extrapyramidal motor system, pyramidal tract and basal ganglia
What is hemiplegic?
ipsilateral upper and lower limb
What is spina bifida?
congenital disorder where the two halves of the posterior vertebral arch fail to fuse?
When does spina bifida start to occur?
in the first six weeks of gestation
what is the mildest form of spina bifida?
spina bifida occulta
What is polio?
viral infection which affects motor anterior horn cells in the spinal cord or brainstem
