Upper Limb Flashcards
shaft-has a double curve in the horizontal plane -medial half is convex anteriorly -lateral half is concave anteriorly Sternal end-enlarged triangular end -articulates with manubrium Acromial end- flat later end -articulates with acromion of scapula Superior Surface-Subcutaneous and smooth Inferior Surface- rough due to ligamentous attachments
Clavicle
Proximal Segment that overlaps parts of trunk and lower lateral neck.
Includes pectoral, scapular and deltoid process and lateral part of cervical region
Shoulder
First segment of free upper limb.
Connect should and elbow
Consist of anterior and posterior compartments
Centered around humerus
Arm (Brachium)
Second Segment of free upper limb
Connects elbow and wrist
Consist of anterior (flexor) and posterior (extensor) compartments.
Overlies radius and ulna
Forearm (antebrachium)
Part of upper limb distal to forearm
Formed around carpals, metacarpals and phalanges
Consists of wrist, palm, dorsum of hand and digits
Include opposable thumb
Hand (manus)
Found on acromial end
Attachment for cornoid l. (Medial part of coracoclavicular l.
Conoid tubercle (Clavicle)
Found on acromial end
Attachment for trapezoid l. (Lateral part of coracoclavicular l.)
Trapezoid line (clavicle)
Site of attachment for subclavius m.
Subclavian groove
A rough depressed oval
Attachment for costoclavicular l.
Impression for costoclavicular l.
One for the most frequent fractured bones
Common in children
Usually the result of an indirect force transmitted from an outstretched hand during a fall.
Weakest part of the clavicle is junction between its middle and lateral thirds.
Clavicular fracture
Has a double curve in the horizontal plane
Medial had is convex anteriorly
Lateral half is concave anteriorly
Clavicular Shaft
Enlarged triangular end of the clavicle.
Articulates with manubrium
Sternal end of clavicle
Flat lateral end of the clavicle
Acromial end of the clavicle
Subcutaneous and smooth surface of the clavicle
Superior surface of the clavicle
Rough, due to ligamentous attachments, surface of clavicle
Inferior surface of the clavicle
Found on the acromial end of the clavicle.
Attachment for conoid ligament.
Conoid tubercle of the clavicle
Found on acromial end of clavicle.
Attachment for the trapezoid ligament.
Trapezoid line
Site of attachment for subclavius muscle on the clavicle
Subclavian groove
A rough, depressed oval
Attachment for costoclavicular ligament on the clavicle
Impression for costoclavicular ligament of the clavicle
Thick projecting ridge of bone on posterior surface of the scapula
Spine of the scapula
Prominence on spine of scapula
Deltoid tubercle of scapula
Flat expanded lateral continuation of spine of scapula
Acromion of the scapula
Point of communication between supra- and infraspinous fossae of scapula
Spinoglenoid notch of scapula
Area above spine of scapula
Supraspinous fossa of scapula
Area below spine of scapula
Infraspinous fossa of scapula
Large area on anterior surface of scapula
Subscapular fossa of scapula
Thin and translucent superior and inferior to spine of scapula
Body of scapula
Shallow, concave, oval depression.
Receives and articulates with humerus
Glenoid fossa of scapula
Anterolateral projection superior to glenoid cavity of scapula
Coracoid process of scapula
Articulates with glenoid fossa of humerus.
Head of the Humerus
Formed by groove circumscribing head of humerus
Anatomical neck of humerus
Narrow part distal to head and tubercles of humerus
Surgical neck of humerus
Prominence at lateral margin of humerus.
Has superior, middle and inferior facets
Greater tubercle
Smaller anterior prominence of humerus
Lesser tubercle of Humerus
Separates tubercles of humerus
Intertubercular (bicipital) groove (sulcus)
